NEWS FROM THE MAISONS

CHAMPAGNE PHILIPPONNAT AWARDED "BRAND OF THE YEAR 2023"
BY REVUE DU VIN DE FRANCE

The event awarded the highly coveted "Brand of the Year" prize to Champagne Philipponnat, based in Mareuil-sur-Aÿ. This award crowns the outstanding rise of Maison Philipponnat, which has successfully reinvented itself under the aegis of Charles Philipponnat since 2000. The Maison, now famous for its excellent range of champagnes, has brilliantly faced with the challenge of combining tradition and innovation.

Under Charles Philipponnat's leadership, the company has committed itself to an ambitious restructuring program, both in its vineyards and in its cellars. The result is tangible in their cuvées, notably Royale Réserve and Clos des Goisses, which reflect a perfect balance of vinosity, dynamism and complexity, dominated by pinot noir. The 2016 vintage champagne was particularly acclaimed for its concentration and freshness.

In 2023, Philipponnat even became the 8th Champagne Maison to be awarded a third star in the Revue du Vin de France's Guide des meilleurs vins de France.

LE CLOS LANSON

We're delighted to share with you some of the fine awards won by Clos Lanson in the exceptional 2008 vintage.

"From a very pure chalky soil and benefiting from an exceptional microclimate suitable for vine development, Clos Lanson offers an outstanding signature for a wine with a great personality." - Hervé Dantan, Cellar Master.

These ratings further strengthen Clos Lanson's place among the Great Wines of Champagne and confirm the value of offering this exceptional wine to connoisseurs and collectors throughout the Place de Bordeaux.

CUVEE SOUS BOIS

Vinified according to early 20th-century traditional methods, Cuvée Sous Bois 2009 recaptures the character of the Champagnes of yesteryear.

The 2009 vintage is made using grapes from several Grands Crus and Premier Crus: Chardonnay from Chouilly, Vertus and Bisseuil, and Pinot Noir from Mailly and Tours-sur-Marne. Vinification takes place in old Champagne and Burgundy barrels: the wines remain in these barrels for nine months after the harvest, until they are drawn off in July.

After long ageing in the cellars, Cuvée Sous Bois is today a great wine, which fully expresses itself in the glass after a few minutes, and can even be decanted to make its tasting even more exceptional. It's the perfect Champagne to enjoy throughout a meal.

Tasting notes: a deep golden color, a woody nose that gives way to aromas of white flowers, cooked fruit, grilled almonds and spice, an airy balance between freshness and power on the palate, with notes of red fruit.

LES RICEYS IN CHAMPAGNE - DOMAINE ALEXANDRE BONNET

After a year of shooting with TY Studio, we finally revealed our video. Dedicated to the glory of the Riceys terroir and the people behind it, it's an entire village that welcomes this shoot with enthusiasm, starting with the mayor of Les Riceys. Through candid portraits, we meet the local players who are breathing life into the village. Our president, Arnaud Fabre, dedicates these few words to this project: "My main motivation for making this film is our terroir. I wanted to showcase Les Riceys and the Côte des Bar through Domaine Alexandre Bonnet. I want to show that the village of Les Riceys is special, that it has a unique history through its human heritage and the know-how that stems from it. The aim of the film is to highlight the different components of the Riceys terroir: the soil, the climate and the people who contribute to its success. Alexandre Bonnet, as the great historic estate of Les Riceys, has a responsibility to be an ambassador for this terroir. We want to be the locomotive of the Riceys train.

As well as the testimony of Irvin Charpentier, our Chef de Caves: "The aim of making this film is to show who we are and to be as realistic as possible. For my part, I wanted to show my philosophy and my closeness to the wines to explain the winemaking process."

GUIDE HACHETTE DES VINS 2023

Tsarine Cuvée Premium: a remarkable wine

Blended in thirds, chardonnay, pinot noir and meunier have produced a brut with an invigorating, fine, complex nose, combining brioche and fresh fruit. After a round, ripe-fruit attack, the sharp, mineral finish leaves an impression of elegant uprightness.

Champagne Chanoine Frères: The winemaker

As early as 1730, the Chanoine brothers were digging out their cellar in Épernay. Their house, the second oldest after Ruinart, suffered an eclipse after the war, before being reborn thanks to its integration into the Lanson-BCC Group (1991), which equipped it with a vast, modern, above-ground cellar in Reims. She created the Tsarine brand in memory of Catherine II, a great lover of champagne. Isabelle Tellier has been at the helm of the winery since 2001.

TOP MARKS FOR MAISON BURTIN

Maison Burtin is pleased to share the ratings and comments of Andreas Larsson, World's Best Sommelier 2007, on its Champagnes.

Blanc de Blancs 2017: 90 points

"Light gold color with copper highlights and a pretty mousse. The nose features notes of chalk, fresh citrus, hazelnut and stone fruit. The enveloping taste offers crispness and freshness, aromas of young fruit, a lovely unctuousness with notes of fresh butter, pretty bubbles and a fine length. "

Vintage 2014: 93 points

"Golden color of some depth with small, lively bubbles. The nose shows some maturity and complexity with yeasty notes of dough and brioche, as well as nougat and fruit: ripe citrus, plum and pear. Body and creamy texture supported by fresh acidity, lovely fruitiness combined with buttery, nutty flavors leading to a long finish. "
